Summary:
Dr. hafez and Leila reach the camp
Leila was dead tired when they reached the camp. She went straight to bed and she woke up in the middle of the night. She still had a bit of headache because of jet-lag and the altitude, so Leila said to Dr. Hafez "I'm okay, but I'm still pretty tired. And I've got a bit of a headache." So Dr. Hafez replied; "That will be the altitude, Go and see Amalia. She's got some headache pills. Take a couple of those and you'll soon be all right" then Dr. Hafez continued his speech; "I have to go into Quenco for meeting. We're expecting a visit from the local UNESCO representative next week, We want to make sure that she gets a good impression of what we're doing here" this is an important project for us and the Peruvian government. And it is the first time there has been this kind of exchange. UNESCO is supporting us until the end of this year. But if we don't find something important before then, they may not want to support us next year. There are so many archaeological projects that need help. At the end Dr. Hafez said to Leila; "Amalia will show you are around the site and tell you what we've done".
       Amalia seems to dislike Leila
Amalia gave Leila two pills to relieve the headache she was suffering from, then Leila said to Amaila "Could you show me around the site? I'd really like to know how far you've got with the excavation" Leila noticed that Amalia didn't seem very friendly. Before explaining what they had done on the site, Amalia asked Leila how much she knew about the Inca Civlization. So Leila replied; "I did some work on the Inca when I was studying at the Italian Institute of Archaeology. And of course I've read Dr. Hafez's reports about the excavation" But Amalia tried to raise doubt about Leila's presence in Peru, so she said to Leila; "Dr. Hafez I suppose that's why you're here in Peru" To defend herself Leila replied; "of course I'm happy to be working with Dr. Hafez. I've worked with him before, But don't get the wrong idea, Amalia. I'm here because I'm an experienced archaeologist and Dr. Hafez thought my experience would be useful in the excavation" "In Egypt, in the Valley of the Nobles. We excavated the tomb of Sennofer together".
Amalia shows Leila around the site
The site was on top of a rocky hill and surrounded by other peaks Amalia said to Leila; "We think that we may have found of a Chimu king. The chimu sometimes built their tombs in hillsides like this. And that hill is called ( hill of the king ) in the Inca language "," the Inca conquered the Chimu but they allowed their kings to ruleif they were loyal to the Incas. They sent Chimu kings" sons to Cuzco, Inca capital, to make sure that their fathers were loyal!".
        Ramon finds something valuable
Ramon was a small dark man with a face burned by the sun. He had brushed the earth from something.  A gold figure of a child. So, Ramon said to Amalia; "It's a gold figure of a child, the Incas sacrificed children to please the gold. They put these gold figures beside the body of the little girl or boy" At this moment, Amalia said to Leila; "Yes, a person's life did not have much value for the Inca" Ramon has gone to get Pablo Alvarez, so, Amalia said to Leila; "Pablo works for the Peruvian Ministry of Culture. He's also on the committee which advises the UNESCO representative about our project. He makes a note of everything we find. Of course, everything we find stays in Peru. It belongs to the Peruvian people. You know there are thieves here who try to rob our tomb "Then Leila replied; "we've had the same problem in Egypt since the time of the pharaohs".

Pablo tells Leila about Incas civilization
Amalia introduced Leila to Pablo who was pleased to meet her. Then Pablo said to Leila; "The Incas were a great civilization. They ruled over a huge area of South America. Their empire extended from what is now Colombia in the north to the country that is now Chile in the south. They ruled over more than ten million people. They built great cities and made beautiful things. Peruvians are very proud of our Inca heritage. We allow foreigners to come here and excavate our ancient cities. We are happy to do that, but we want to keep the things you find here in Peru, where they belong. We have to be careful, because there are many robbers who come here to steal our culture and sell it to rich collectors. There are even museums that buy objects that have been stolen from Peru. Museums-not private collectors. Can you believe that?"
Leila sent an e-mail to Samira
Leila wrote an e-mail to her sister Samira. She told her that they opened the wall of a tomb. It might be the tomb of a king. Leila admired the way the wall was built. They made a hole in the wall big enough for someone to go through, Dr. Hafez asked Ramon to go into the tomb first as he was quite small. So, Dr. Hafez said to Ramon "Be careful, Ramon go as far as you can. Tell us what you see?" Ramon was tied with a rope round the waist and then lowered down. He had a large flashlight with him. After a couple of minutes, they heard Ramon's voice on the two-way radio. So, Ramon said; "I'm at the bottom of the cave, It's really quite deep. I can see some bones and some bits of pottery. But that's all I can see right now" At the end of Leila's e-mail, she told Samira that Amalia didn't seem to like her.
